Karen Brown dropped by the foyer to discuss her vision for the stage, the future of theater, and what she's doing to get us there.

Karen Brown has been working as a Theatre professional as well as an educator for over 20 years. Ms. Brown began as an actor and performed with the Kalamazoo Civic and Western Michigan University. She served as Theatre/Arts administration with the Kalamazoo Civic Theater where she was the 2nd director/manager for the Black Civic for 2 seasons. After moving to New York, Ms. Brown worked with the prestigious American Place Theatre. Among many distinguished positions, too numerous to post here, she was also the Lead Team Teacher in the Urban Writes program with American Place Theatre, producing theatrical scripts with middle and high school children. In 2001, Ms. Brown became the Associate Producer for the National Black Touring Circuit, Inc. and she was on the Professional Development Staff teaching Playwriting and Marketing with the renowned Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. She currently serves as the Executive Director of The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc., after having served as Program and Fund Developer. Ms. Brown holds a BA in English from Western Michigan University and MA from Miami of Ohio with dual majors in Theatrical Directing and Theatre and Arts Management.
